Iliad Final Assessment
50 points
Once you have finished The Iliad, you must then demonstrate an
understanding of a major theme, as well as how characters and storylines fit
into that theme. To demonstrate this
understanding, you will complete the following:
--First, identify a major
theme from the poem. Use your notes from
class discussions and your own reading to determine this theme.
--Working in teams of three
or four, you will create a multimedia project that shows an understanding of a
major theme in The Iliad. Past projects have includedbut certainly are
not limited tomagazines, films, soundtracks with liner notes, interviews,
museum exhibits, and so on. If, for example, you choose the magazine
route, you will function in the role of a magazine publisher interested in
treating the various aspects and issues of the rage of Achilles. Who is involved? What happens and why? What results from the action? And so on.
Your magazine will consist of articles, photos, and other artifacts (ads,
features, etc.) that help to show your understanding of the major theme of the
poem.
--Whatever medium you use,
you will need to demonstrate effective communication skills, including
significant samples of writing. Again,
though, that writing will come in different forms depending on the type of
project you do.
--Also, each member of your
team must demonstrate clear participation and understanding of the theme. In other words, you will not be able to sit
back and allow your teammates to do the bulk of the work. You must play an active role in this project.
You and your team will present this
project in class on Wednesday, October 29th.
